Flavonoids and phenolic acids from sugarcane: Distribution in the plant, changes during processing, and potential benefits to industry and health

This paper has identified the (poly)phenolic compounds that exist in sugarcane plant parts and products. Sugarcane (poly)phenols mainly consist of flavonoids and phenolic acids. The three major flavonoids that survive  through all the steps of sugarcane processing are apigenin, luteolin, and tricin, many of which are C-glycosides. The two major phenolic acids are ferulic and caffeic acids, as well as the parent chlorogenic acid, found throughout the plant and processing steps.  Read More: Hewawansa 2024 CRFSFS Flavonoids and phenolic acids from sugarcane
